Please Don’t Say “Akwaaba” When Someone Says “Medaase”!

In English, we respond to “thank you” with “you’re welcome.” Because of this, some Twi learners have started responding to “medaase” or “meda wo ase” with “akwaaba.” This is incorrect. “Akwaaba” is only used to welcome someone into a place—like your home, town, or country—not as a response to gratitude. In this quick video, I explain why you shouldn’t use “akwaaba” in this context, and I share better ways to respond when someone says “medaase.” For more on this, check out the full lesson here: How to Respond to a “Thank You” in Twi.
